Theresa May to Trump: “Mind your own business Mr. President”
Theresa May defended the U.K.’s response to President Trump’s retweeting of anti-Muslim videos posted by a leader of an ultranationalist British group, saying the country is not afraid to push back on the U.S.
Theresa May “The fact that we work together does not mean that we’re afraid to say when we think the United States has got it wrong, and to be very clear with them. And I’m very clear that retweeting from Britain First was the wrong thing to do,”.
British PM’s comments come a day after Trump retweeted a series of videos from Jayda Fransen, who is the deputy leader of the far-right group Britain First. The videos claimed to show Muslims engaging in violent acts.
Trump’s retweets sparked widespread outrage in the U.K.
Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn called the tweets “abhorrent,” while London Mayor Sadiq Khan said Trump’s visit to the U.K. should be canceled.
However, May said the invitation to Trump for a state visit to the U.K. has not been revoked and that the two countries have yet to set a date.
Spokesperson for May first condemned the retweets Wednesday, saying it was wrong for Trump to retweet the videos.
Donald Trump responded to the statement on Wednesday, saying May should focus her energy on terrorism, instead of him.

Theresa got this spot on – if someone gets something badly wrong, as the President did, then a good friend tells them https://t.co/Krfgx4B8lL

She did, but unfortunately Toddler Trump doesn’t have the maturity to accept good advice.

Uh, not the whole USA, but clearly the national embarrassment we elected president. Please know there are still some good people here.

Finally a bit of strength. Perhaps that stability she mentioned is just around the corner 🙃

I may not share the same political views as you Theresa, but TBF you have stood your ground on this. The damaging rhetoric coming from the far right needs to stop it divides the country. Trump need to mind his own business America has far worse problems, they elected him!!

.@Theresa_May, don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!
