The “Veep” star announced earlier Thursday she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a statement she posted on Twitter, she also called for universal healthcare, saying while she had good insurance and a support system, not everyone is so lucky.
“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” she wrote on Twitter.
“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union,” she added. “The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”
Cancer is an issue close to Biden’s heart. His son, Beau Biden, passed away in 2015 after battling brain cancer.
Earlier this year, Biden launched the Biden Cancer Initiative, a private venture aimed at promoting cancer research and care.
