Elon Musk Showed Trump How to be a Real Leader at the time of Crisis
President Donald Trump preferred throwing petty feud with San Juan Mayor while millions of Americans were suffering due to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. With constant criticism, the media had to twist Trump’s arm to get a cent out of him. Even though Trump later did pledge to donate one million dollars to relief efforts, but not a single cent came out of his the so-called billionaire’s wallet.
Unlike Trump, Tesla founder Elon Musk has been making notable moves to support the people of Puerto Rico. No one will see Musk chucking rolls of paper towels into a crowd of Puerto Ricans anytime soon.
Musk and Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló struck a deal for Tesla to rebuild Puerto Rico’s ravished power grid. Rossello confirmed the deal on Twitter in the following tweet:
“Great initial conversation with @elonmusktonight. Teams are now talking; exploring opportunities. Next steps soon to follow.”
Ahead of the big announcement, Musk had extended to rebuild the grid using batteries and solar power. However, the big drawback is the fact that the island needs power right now, and Musk needs time to install the new power grid.
Musk said, “The Tesla team has [built solar grids] for many smaller islands around the world, but there is no scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico too. Such a decision would be in the hands of the PR govt, PUC, any commercial stakeholders and, most importantly, the people of PR.”
Tesla has been working on other islands in Hawaii and American Samoa. In the meantime, Musk has already sent more Tesla staff to the island to get things up and running ASAP.
