Dan Rather just issued an urgent warning about the new Trumpcare bill
Legendary journalist Dan Rather wrote an essay on Facebook post today lambasting Trump administration, where he continued to make sufficiently clear which one he thinks the Graham-Cassidy Obamacare repeal is.
Rather also referred to the 32 billion people the new Trumpcare bill will throw off the healthcare rolls, raising premiums and minimizing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions — like Jimmy Kimmel’s son, who was born with a congenital heart condition.
Citing Kimmel, as well as the Republican governors who are protesting the bill for its cruelty and its cost ($4 trillion over the next 20 years), Rather warned congressional Republicans that “America is watching,” as they prepare to vote next week.
Dan Rather’s Facebook post reads:
Cruelty and cynicism do not make for good government.
I have seen a lot. I am not usually surprised, but I cannot fathom the healthcare bill that is making its way through the Senate.
It must be said that healthcare is a complicated and maddening topic. Few things are more important to our lives and livelihoods, and yet healthcare comes with costs that cannot be overlooked. Any system will be one of the tradeoffs.
But there’s a difference between tradeoffs and ripoffs. And all the sober analysis of the Graham-Cassidy bill I have seen suggests it would lead to millions of uninsured, transfer money from states that have made a commitment to expanding health insurance to those that haven’t, remove important regulations like those around pre-existing conditions, and potentially end Medicaid as we know it.
The late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has gone viral with his passioned plea against this bill last night. Republican governors are raising alarms. We still don’t know the contours of exactly how this will play out. But America is watching. It’s not only the millions who risk losing insurance that have a vested stake in the outcome. We all do
